She divides this book into three parts, dividing the respective parts of the alphabet as part of a cyclic progression: the cycles of the earth, of the underworld, and of the heavens. Each letter contains an origin story and symbolism, which Dillon contends is a progression in a story of enlightenment. She delves into the history of our latinate alphabet by contrasting it with and looking at other writing systems, such as Nordic/Germanic runes.
